How Long Does AC Repair Take in Las Vegas?

When your AC breaks down in Las Vegas summer, the first question after “can you fix it?” is usually “how long is this going to take?” It’s a fair question — when it’s 112° outside, every hour matters.

The honest answer is: it depends. But here’s exactly what affects the timeline so you know what to expect.

Most Common Repairs: 1–3 Hours

The majority of AC repairs in Las Vegas are completed in a single visit that takes between one and three hours. This includes the most common issues our technicians handle every day:

• Capacitor replacement — 30 to 60 minutes. This is the single most common AC repair in Las Vegas. Capacitors fail frequently due to extreme heat stress. The part is inexpensive and the replacement is fast.
• Contactor replacement — 30 to 60 minutes. Similar to the capacitor — a quick electrical fix that gets the system running immediately.
• Thermostat replacement — 30 to 90 minutes depending on the thermostat type.
• Condensate drain cleaning — 30 to 60 minutes.
• Fan motor replacement — 1 to 2 hours.
• Refrigerant recharge (minor leak) — 1 to 2 hours if the leak is minor and accessible.

More Complex Repairs: 3–8 Hours or Multiple Visits

Some repairs take longer, either because they’re more involved or because parts need to be ordered:

• Refrigerant leak detection and repair — If the leak is difficult to locate, finding it can take 1–3 hours before the repair even begins. Major leak repairs can be a half-day job.
• Evaporator coil replacement — 4 to 8 hours. The coil has to be removed, a new one sourced and installed, and the system recharged with refrigerant.
• Compressor replacement — This is a big one. 4 to 8 hours minimum, and the compressor usually has to be ordered. You may be without AC for 1–2 days if the part isn’t in stock locally.
• Full system replacement — See below.

What About Parts Availability?

Las Vegas HVAC companies that stock common parts can often complete repairs the same day. Vida Air keeps the most commonly replaced parts on hand — capacitors, contactors, common fan motors — so we don’t have to wait on a parts order for the most frequent repairs.

Less common parts — specific compressors, coils for older or less common systems — may need to be ordered. That can add 1–3 days to the timeline in most cases, though rush shipping is available for urgent situations.

Full System Replacement: 1 Day

If your system needs to be fully replaced, the installation typically takes 4 to 8 hours — so most replacements can be completed in a single day once the equipment is on hand. The general timeline looks like this:

• Day 1 — Tech visits, assesses, recommends equipment, provides quote
• Day 2 — Equipment confirmed and scheduled (sometimes same-day if equipment is in stock)
• Installation day — 4 to 8 hours for a standard residential replacement

Financing is available through Vida Air so cost doesn’t have to delay getting your home comfortable again.

How to Get the Fastest Repair Possible

A few things that help speed up the process:

• Call early in the day — morning calls get scheduled before afternoon calls fill the schedule.
• Know your system info — brand, model, and approximate age help the technician come prepared with the right parts.
• Describe the symptoms clearly — “warm air from vents,” “unit won’t start,” “ice forming on the lines” all point to different issues and help us come prepared.
• Don’t wait — in Las Vegas summer, a struggling AC often becomes a completely failed AC within days. Catching it early usually means a faster, cheaper repair.
